2010 Fiber Festival

New: Knitting and Sewing Circle!

Beginning on January 9, 2010, volunteer Yvonne Virgadamo will host Knitting and Sewing circles on Saturdays from 1-4PM and Tuesdays from 10AM-4PM.  All skill levels are welcome. (This does include those who have never sewn or knit before.)
The focus will be on 18th Century techniques and articles of clothing, but, feel free to bring whatever project you are working on.  If you are interested in sewing or knitting items for the Farm, materials will be provided.  Spinning, Quilting and Embroidery Circles will be added later.    A period style stretcher is being built for us, so we will be able to quilt together comfortably in the spring and summer months.
Yvonne has been knitting since she was five years old, and hand-sewing since six.  She has a lot of experience in teaching handcrafts.  If it can be done with thread or yarn, she can probably do it, and would love to show you how.

Call or email for details.

  A living Historical Farm...

Coggeshall Farm is a living history museum which seeks to illustrate agrarian life while exploring the interaction between Anglo, African, and Native peoples on a coastal Rhode Island farm in the last decade of the 18th century.  Set on 48 acres in Bristol, Rhode Island, the museum features an historic 18th century farmhouse, rare breed livestock, heirloom gardens and fruit trees, and costumed live interpretation of rural life in Bristol during the Federal period.  Our regular museum programming is bolstered throughout the year by several special events, the largest and most popular of which is our annual Harvest Fair.

The Farm Grounds...
Farm HouseCan be visited for variety of activities including a quiet walk, to attend a workshop, or as part of a school or adult tour group. Special weekend events such as maple sugaring, sheep shearing, and demonstrations of late eighteenth century skills, crafts, and farm work using materials and methods of the period are demonstrated throughout the year.

The Museum...
Incorporated in 1973, is a non-profit educational institution that is supported by memberships, public and private grants, and donations. We are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. year round. Admission is three dollars for adults and two for children. We look forward to your visit...
